Stainless Steel Pipe Flanges

Stainless steel flanges are commonly used in piping systems that require corrosion resistance, durability, and reliable performance in demanding environments. Compared to carbon steel, a stainless steel pipe flange offers improved resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and chemical exposure. This material advantage makes it suitable for oil and gas, petrochemical, and waterworks applications.

Coastal Flange manufactures stainless steel pipe flanges in accordance with strict industry standards, including ASME, ANSI, and AWWA specifications. We supply a wide range of stainless steel flange sizes and material grades. Our facility offers custom machining to meet project-specific requirements, delivering short lead times to support fast-paced project schedules.

Types of Stainless Steel Pipe Flanges

Stainless steel flanges are available in multiple configurations for specific installation methods, pressure requirements, and maintenance needs. Coastal Flange offers a comprehensive selection of standard stainless steel flange sizes and material grades. We can also tailor our products via custom machining to meet specific application requirements.

Blind flanges

These solid components seal the ends of piping systems or pressure vessels. They allow for system isolation, pressure testing, and future expansion by providing a removable closure point. Coastal Flange offers stainless steel blind flanges manufactured to ASME B16.5 and B16.47 (Series A and Series B) standards.

Lap-joint flanges

These flanges slide over the pipe and are used with stub-end fittings. Facilities select them for systems that require frequent disassembly because they allow for easy alignment and reuse. We supply a range of lap-joint configurations across standard ASME classes and in various stainless steel grades, including 304 and 316.

Slip-on flanges

Installers can slide these directly over the pipe, utilizing an internal diameter slightly larger than the pipe’s outside diameter. They can then be secured with fillet welds at both the top and bottom of the flange. Coastal Flange offers ASME B16.5 slip-on flanges across standard pressure ratings, from Class 150 through Class 2500.

Socket weld flanges

These units connect small-diameter piping systems securely. The pipe is inserted into a recessed socket and secured with a fillet weld to create a strong, leak-resistant connection. We manufacture these components to ASME B16.5 standards for all standard pressure classes.

Threaded flanges

These units feature tapered internal threads that allow them to be screwed onto the pipe without welding. They are typically used in lower-pressure applications or scenarios where welding is impractical or not permitted.

Coastal Flange offers standard ASME B16.5 designs across standard pressure classes, as well as custom-engineered options modified for specialty projects.

Weld-neck flanges

Welders can attach these by joining the tapered neck directly to the pipe. This design provides improved stress distribution for high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

Coastal Flange manufactures weld-neck flanges according to ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 Series A and Series B standards across all standard pressure classes.

Material Grades of Stainless Steel Pipe Flanges

Material selection must account for the operating environment, including direct exposure to chemicals, moisture, or temperature extremes. Selecting the appropriate grade prevents corrosion, material degradation, and premature system failure.

While both 304 and 316 stainless steels provide strong corrosion resistance, 316 is typically preferred for marine and chemical environments due to its improved resistance to pitting and chloride exposure. Its added molybdenum content enhances physical performance in aggressive conditions.

Applications of Stainless Steel Pipe With Flanges

Stainless steel flanges are widely used in commercial applications requiring strict corrosion resistance and structural durability, such as:

  • Oil and gas. Technicians use these components to connect and isolate pipeline sections for maintenance and system modification.
  • Petrochemical. Facilities apply these parts in high-temperature and high-pressure processing systems, including advanced refining and chemical production.
  • Waterworks. Municipalities utilize these connections in distribution systems to transfer water through heavy pipelines in accordance with AWWA C228 standards.

Benefits of Using a Stainless Steel Flange

A stainless steel flange provides several performance advantages in demanding operating environments:

  • High corrosion resistance. The material resists degradation in chemical and moisture-exposed environments.
  • Strong mechanical properties. The dense metal structure supports high-pressure applications safely.
  • Thermal stability. The material actively resists oxidation and severe temperature fluctuations.
  • Extended longevity. The durable metal delivers a long service life with reduced maintenance requirements.
